ABSTRACT OIL ON PANEL
BY VILHELM SERBER
As many of his collegues did, Danish painter Vilhelm Serber (1902-1977) started out with figurative art, but went abstract in the 50’s – for most of the artists this was a reaction to the uncontrolled Cobra art.
This work on panel from the 50’s has very vivid colors brought together in a strong geometric composition, based on the idea that pure form, and not so much content, justifies art and enhances the aesthetic appreciation.
The frame is a bit shabby, but the painting itself is in good condition.
